Paintings 2014 - present
Music has played a huge part of my creative process. Music/soundscapes/drowns are always playing in the background of my studio. As a painting develops, I feel like a conductor or composer orchestrating the shapes to colors and arranging the yellows, blues and greens with the red, oranges and violets in a delicate balance between harmony, timbre and chaos.
I describe my paintings, drawings, and drawing installations as hardedge, colorfields with a digital twist exploring the language of geometric abstraction. I have always worked with abstract shapes/forms in observation of the world around me. The first thing you’ll notice is color. I believe in the timeless power of color, it has passion, tells/shows us who we are. Color is aggressive, political, and angry, it’s moody, cold, and elusive. It gives us joy, color is arresting and ugly, it comforts us, and describes us to a T. Similarly, patterns identify us, helps us know/understand our history, and speaks to our prejudices. Patterns are groovy, ridged, straight forward and matter of fact. Adding a digital element and layering images(patterns) overtop one another transforms/dissolves/disrupts the individual to produce a complex/richer/truer life-statement/painting to engage and dazzle viewers
