I have always worked with abstract shapes/forms in observation of the world around me. Im inspired by Pop Art and the vivid color within my work is a direct result of that influence. I think of pattern as an extension of popular culture and as a connection to economic, social, and ethnic identifiers. My work seeks to make connections from drawing to painting to sculpture and back again suggesting the familiar, and the unknown while engaging viewers.
From my colorful, layered, patterned canvas, I transfer individual shapes to form core or wood to fashion 3-dimensional maquettes for steel sculptures. As a result of the adaptive process each unique shape becomes a new archetype that metaphorically represents a human quality or characteristic where everything is happening at once.
